It begins on family land in the Terras de Riba-Côa. Granite, seasons, the village: FICÔA takes shape from what is already here.
We went to learn, here and elsewhere: observing practices, listening and seeking good methods. Then we worked. Our first harvest came in 2025.
Saffron is our first step; wine will be the next major one. We want to build a House rooted in its terroir, bringing its products across borders while creating and sharing value where they begin.

We believe in a future that gives more power to local communities: more sharing, responsibility and value created with the people who live here.
Our ambition is to build a lasting business whose activity helps reward local work, pass on skills and develop short supply chains. The circular economy must lead to practical uses for resources and by-products. We want this contribution to be measurable: jobs created, local collaborations, knowledge passed on and resources put to use. These objectives will be documented as the project develops; they are not presented as results already achieved. Keeping villages alive also means slowing rural depopulation and making a return to the countryside possible. We hope to help create the conditions for a doctor to return to the village and for essential services to remain, working with the relevant stakeholders.
Saffron begins the story. Wine will give it new scope. Peroficos is our starting point; our ambition is local, national and international. To my ancestors.

The first harvest. The first circle. The 2025 Founding Edition brings together two 0.10 g vials of saffron from our very first harvest: one to discover, the other to keep. Twenty numbered editions to accompany the birth of FICÔA.
In 2026, FICÔA saffron enters its first regular release. Wine and skincare will follow.
The 2026 harvest will mark the first regular release of FICÔA saffron. It will be offered in premium culinary formats, distinct from the 2025 collectible piece. Formats, available quantities and delivery terms will be announced after the harvest and quality control. Orders will then open on the website. Holders of the 2025 Founding Edition will receive priority access; everyone else can follow the release through News from the Quinta.
Wine will be FICÔA’s next major chapter: a first cuvée from Peroficos, with character, roundness and carefully considered winemaking. Its composition and availability will be presented once established.
Saffron also opens a path towards skincare. We intend to develop a serum around this ingredient, with rigorous formulation, tolerance and evaluation. This project is not yet commercialised.
The vineyard suggests another avenue: studying grape seeds and by-products to explore new uses and reduce waste. This research places future skincare within a circular-economy approach; it remains subject to testing and validation.
Peroficos will be the testing ground for the model: bringing together producers, know-how and local resources to build a viable activity, reward work and create value locally.
Our ambition is to develop this approach in other Portuguese villages and then internationally, while respecting the identity of each place. Local roots, national development, international reach.

In the coming months, Quinta FICÔA plans to open its capital to accelerate an agricultural, territorial and circular model born in Peroficos, in the Terras de Riba-Côa.

Of the twenty numbered editions, piece No. 001 is kept by the family. Five editions are intended for selected figures — leading chefs, artists and engaged voices in public life — whose perspective can accompany the birth of FICÔA. The remaining fourteen are offered for purchase, by reservation.
